Definition:

Poetry is a special kind of writing that expresses

strong feelings and emotions with lots of rich and

descriptive language. The language of poetry is often

not literal and also flows very smoothly.

Example:

How did it get so late so soon?

It’s night before it’s afternoon.
December is here before it’s June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?

Significance:

Poetry allows people to express their feeling in a

fresh and whole new way that is so much more

powerful than simple prose writing.
